Greece was the first culture to build buildings for beauty and not just structure and protection.
The name of the Parthenon comes from "Athena Parthenos" or "Athena the Virgin".
Greek architecture is best known for its columns and triangular roofs.
Greek influence is seen all over the ancient world and can still be seen in the modern world.
The Parthenon is a good example of great Greek architecture, because of its towering Doric columns, triangular roof and even though it is over 2000 years old it is still partially standing.
The ancient city of Paestum, Italy is also a great example of Greek architecture, even though it isn't located in Greece. The big Doric columns are of influence to the great Greek temples. The Greek colonists definitely were thinking of home when they constructed the triangular roofs on the buildings. Also through all of the 15 centuries it is still mostly standing and is still very beautiful to look at.
